Job summary

Bunch Projects, a Calgary-based energy facilities and pipelines contractor, is seeking an intermediate Piping Stress Engineer to join our detailed engineering team.

The successful candidate will perform static and dynamic piping stress analyses, develop models in CAESAR II, and ensure compliance with ASME B31.3 and CSA Z662. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, support fabrication and field activities, and contribute to safe, reliable project execution across Western Canada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and registration with APEGA as EIT or P.Eng.
  • 4–8 years of piping stress analysis experience.
  • Proficiency with CAESAR II or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME B31.3 and CSA Z662.

Responsibilities

  • Perform static and dynamic piping stress analysis using engineering best practices.
  • Develop stress models using CAESAR II software.
  • Evaluate piping systems for thermal expansion, vibration, seismic loading, wind loading and other loads.
  • Review and interpret design codes such as ASME B31.3 and CSA Z662.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with project engineers, designers, construction/fabrication teams and third parties.
  • Participate in design/model reviews and client meetings.
  • Support fabrication, construction, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.

Position Summary

We are seeking an intermediate Piping Stress Engineer to join our detailed engineering team. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide piping system stress analysis deliverables, incorporating constructability best practices into effective piping system designs. This role is ideal for an engineer with several years of experience in stress analysis and a strong understanding of oil & gas and energy industry codes and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform static and dynamic piping stress analysis using engineering best practices.
  • Develop stress models using CAESAR II software.
  • Evaluate piping systems for thermal expansion, vibration, seismic loading, wind loading and other static and dynamic loads as required.
  • Review and interpret applicable design codes including ASME B31.3 and CSA Z662.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with project engineers, designers, construction/fabrication teams, third parties, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in design reviews, model reviews, and client meetings as required.
  • Provide support during fabrication, construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits as required.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Registered as an EIT or P.Eng. with APEGA.
  • 4 to 8 years of piping stress analysis experience.
  • Experience using CAESAR II equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME B31.3, CSA Z662, and applicable engineering standards.
  • Ability to review and interpret P&IDs, line lists, and AutoCAD/CADWorx models to perform pipe stress analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Preferred
  • Experience using Bluebeam Revu, Navisworks for reviewing and providing input on piping model.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and CADWorx with respect to importing model data into CAESAR II.
  • Knowledge of pressure vessels and equipment stress analysis (nozzle loads, etc.).
  • Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, power, or industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with dynamic analysis, vibration studies, and transient flow analysis.
