Summary of Position

CCI Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical/Stress Engineer (Intermediate) to join our Pipeline & Facilities team. This role is responsible for performing engineering analysis, stress modeling, design, and project execution for a wide range of oil and gas infrastructure projects, including pipeline systems, integrity-driven upgrades, facility piping, pump stations, terminal facilities, metering and transfer systems, compression facilities, and related process infrastructure.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in the evaluation of piping and pipeline systems throughout all phases of project development, including feasibility studies, conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement support, construction, commissioning, and start-up. Responsibilities include performing stress and flexibility analyses, evaluating piping supports and restraints, assessing code compliance, and developing engineering deliverables to ensure safe, reliable, and fit-for-purpose designs.

The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, civil, structural, geotechnical, integrity, and operations personnel, as well as clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies. The successful candidate will support the delivery of projects through technical reviews, constructability assessments, risk evaluations, and resolution of complex engineering challenges.

Accountabilities

This is an intermediate position, and the incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Pipeline & Facilities Manager and Stress Engineering Lead.

• Perform, model, and review piping and pipeline stress analyses using AutoPIPE to verify compliance with CSA Z662, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, and project-specific design requirements.

• Support the design, analysis, and modification of:
• Oil and gas transmission and distribution pipeline systems.
• Trenchless Crossing (Horizontal Directional Drills & Auger bores).
• Pump stations, terminal facilities, and facility piping systems.
• Metering and custody transfer facilities.
• Pressure control and overpressure protection systems.
• Pipeline integrity, repair, replacement, and rehabilitation projects.
• Compressor, launcher, receiver, and station piping systems.

• Evaluate piping and pipeline flexibility under sustained, thermal, pressure, occasional, construction, settlement, and operating load conditions.
• Develop stress analysis reports, Design Basis Memoranda (DBMs), engineering calculations, and design recommendations.
• Evaluate piping support requirements and specify support components, including pipe shoes, guides, anchors, line stops, spring supports, rigid supports, and restraints.
• Perform support load calculations and prepare support load summaries for coordination with structural, civil, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Perform surface loading and crossing assessments in accordance with CEPA guidelines and API 1102, including the evaluation of highway, railway, construction, and other external loads on buried pipeline systems.
• Support route selection, constructability reviews, material selection, and engineering optimization studies.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, civil, structural, mechanical, integrity, survey, and construction teams throughout project execution.
• Experience in project management, business development, and technical leadership is considered an asset but is not required for this role.
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software, such as ABAQUS, and engineering automation tools (e.g., Python) is considered an asset but is not required for this role.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA and in good standing.
• Ability to obtain registration in other Canadian jurisdictions considered an asset.
• 4+ years of progressive Mechanical/Stress engineering experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency using AutoPIPE Pipe stress analysis software.
• Experience working with owner/operators, EPCM firms, engineering consultants, or midstream companies.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• An excellent communicator and team player, able to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment with a positive attitude.
• Detail-oriented, meticulous, and have strong organizational skills.

Work Environment

• This position is primarily office-based with periodic travel to client sites throughout Western Canada for field investigations, design reviews, commissioning, start-up support, and construction activities.
