Position Overview:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will perform mechanical design utilizing BIM. Working closely with the Chief Innovation Officer and Director of Engineering, you will drive the use of digital tools that support design processes across the company and provide mechanical design and engineering for projects of various sizes and complexity in commercial and industrial buildings. You will also have the opportunity to participate in external business development. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with project managers and engineers to prepare detailed drawings and drawing sets, primarily in Revit.
  • Collaborating on the development of BIM execution plans.
  • Conducting detailed engineering analysis, load calculations, equipment selection, and energy model calibration.
  • Working with energy modelers to analyze system design alternatives and select the most suitable design for project needs.
  • Consulting with clients to provide low/no carbon design solutions, analyzing design proposals and specifications for cost-effective solutions.
  • Providing internal and external guidance to ensure technically sound designs and successful project completion.
  • Professionally sealing documents.
  • Collaborating with the energy modeling team to produce graphical representations of complex simulation data for client-facing deliverables.
  • If interested, drafting technical papers and presenting insights to Canadian policymakers and senior executives, interpreting and communicating design data.
  • Making an impact on the energy transition—one of the largest challenges of our generation.

Qualifications:

You are a driven individual with:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a desire to collaborate and problem-solve in a team environment.
  • A self-starter mentality and the willingness to take ownership of complex engineering problems.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for improving the design and performance of buildings.
  • A university degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or E.I.T. with APEGA or another Canadian province/territory.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including the National Building Code, ASHRAE, and NFPA.
  • At least 5 years of HVAC design experience using BIM (Revit).
  • Experience leading project teams on low/no carbon engineering projects, with expertise in zero-carbon building HVAC design (including geothermal or solar PV/PVT) considered a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Revit and its application in HVAC systems design, including a strong knowledge of creating libraries, templates, and families.
  • Experience with Rhino, and generating Open Studio models from Revit are considered assets.
