Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join their automation team in Canada. The role focuses on designing custom mechanical solutions, performing engineering calculations, and producing detailed drawings to support automated machinery projects.

You will work closely with the mechanical engineering team, applying SolidWorks skills and a firm understanding of pneumatics and servo-driven systems to deliver practical, manufacturable designs.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in automation mechanical design.
• Proficient with SolidWorks.
• Experience with solutions based designing.
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and machine design experience.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, actuators, and servo-driven systems.
• Experience designing mechanical mechanisms such as rack-and-pinion or cam-driven systems.
• Ability to select and integrate standard machine components into custom equipment designs.
• Strong understanding of manufacturability and practical machine design.
• Experience working with automated machinery, material handling systems, or custom equipment
• PDM experience is a must
• Familiarity with industrial suppliers and automation components (e.g., Carr Lane, McMaster-Carr, Allen-Bradley).

Responsibilities

The candidate will be joining the mechanical engineering team to assist in designing custom mechanical solutions for their respective clients'. This individual will be responsible for performing engineering calculations, analyzing engineering drawings, producing work drawings, and providing design support related to the construction of industry regulations. This is an extremely hands‑on position and the candidate will be assigned to a station where they will be responsible for one or more aspects of the automation solution. The candidate must have hands‑on experience in automation mechanical design, SolidWorks, and a strong understanding of pneumatics/servo.
