Job summary

EXP Services Inc. is seeking an Intermediate Materials Technician in Burnaby, BC to join our Soils and Materials team. You will perform on-site concrete, asphalt and soil testing, and support field observations for projects in the Metro Vancouver area.

You will split time between field and lab work, collaborating with Project Engineers/Managers to ensure quality testing and reporting. A diploma is an asset, and a valid Canadian driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Completion of Civil Engineering Technology diploma is an asset.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in concrete, asphalt, and soil testing.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in field environments on active construction sites.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration across diverse teams and clients.
• Valid Canadian driver’s license.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
• Highly organized with strong time management skills.
• Willingness to work night shifts and weekends as required.

Responsibilities

• Execute on-site concrete tests including casting cylinders, slump test, and air content.
• Perform in-place density testing using a Nuclear Densometer.
• Carry out asphalt and concrete coring.
• Collect soil and asphalt samples on site.
• Conduct in-lab testing such as concrete cylinder testing, grain size analysis, Proctor tests, asphalt tests, and geotechnical index testing.
• Perform subgrade field reviews.
• Assist in resolving project-site issues.
• Attend staff and project meetings and respond to client testing needs.
• Interact with clients and contractors to provide excellent service and quick testing responses.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Soils and Materials team, based inBurnaby, BC office and have the opportunity to work with a great team. Working closely with Project Engineers/Managers and Discipline Manager to conduct construction observations and confirmation of construction materials design elements and conducting materials quality assurance/control testing and reporting in both the field and laboratory for projects mainly in and around, but not limited to the Metro Vancouverarea. The successful candidate will spend their time both in the field on project sites or in the laboratory conducting materials testing, with further responsibilities assigned dependent upon level of experience and proficiency.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

What your experience looks like

• Completion of, or current enrollment in, a recognized Civil Engineering Technology diploma program is considered an asset


• Minimum 5 years of experience in concrete, asphalt, and soil testing


• Ability to work safely and effectively in field environments on active construction sites


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and client groups


• Valid Canadian driver’s license


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills


• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure


• Highly organized with strong time management skills
  
• Willingness to work night shifts and weekends as required

The hourly range for this role is between ($26 - $29/hr).
