Job summary

EXP in Markham, Ontario, is seeking a Field Inspector to join our geotechnical and construction inspection team. You will participate in the conception and development of residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects, performing on-site soil testing, density testing, and inspections.

The role requires a Civil Technician/Tech Diploma or a degree in Earth/Environmental Science or Engineering, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering/Natural Sciences or related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are mandatory.
  • Past work in geotechnical/construction inspection is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform concrete slump and air tests and cast cylinders on site.
  • Conduct field soil compaction testing using soil density gauge.
  • Monitor earthwork, backfill, and compaction in trenches and fills.
  • Inspect subgrades and asphalt placement, with sampling and testing.
  • Collect soil and aggregate samples for laboratory testing.
  • Inspect footing and reinforcing bars; monitor caissons, piles and shoring.
  • Identify soil types from samples and perform proctor and sieve tests.

Your work environment at EXP

Under the leadership of the Project Manager in our Markham Office, the Geotechnical Field Inspection and Testing Technician will participate in the conception and development of various residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects in the Geotechnical as well as Construction Inspection and Testing Field.

What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Perform concrete slump and air test as well as cast test cylinders on the field.
  • Perform field soil compaction testing with soil density gauge.
  • Monitor the placement of soil and granular materials, and carry out compaction testing as part of trench backfill, engineered fill or general backfill or grading operations.
  • Carry out subgrade inspections.
  • Monitor the placement of asphalt pavement, including sampling and compaction testing.
  • Perform soil and aggregate sampling for laboratory testing.
  • Perform footing and reinforcing bar inspections.
  • Monitor the installation of caissons, piles and shoring system.
  • Properly identify/classify soil types from samples.
  • Perform soil and granular proctor tests.
  • Perform granular sieve tests.
What Your Experience Looks Like
  • Civil Technician or Technology Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Natural Sciences (Earth Science, Environmental Science, or Engineering).
  • Valid driver's license and own reliable vehicle is MANDATORY.
  • Past work experience in same field preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills.

  • This work requires carrying/transporting concrete testing equipment, concrete cylinders, soil density gauge and soil samples in construction sites.

The salary range for this role is $44,850-$48,750K. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
