Job summary

Equilibrium is seeking an Intermediate Groundwater Modeller to join its Vancouver-based Hydrogeology team. You will develop and apply conceptual and numerical groundwater models, analyse data and provide practical recommendations for mining and natural resources projects.

You will deliver investigations, support fieldwork, mentor colleagues, and help grow the Hydrogeology practice through client collaboration and new techniques.

Qualifications

  • Typically 4–6+ years of relevant professional experience in hydrogeology and groundwater modelling.
  • Experience applying hydrogeological principles to complex groundwater problems.
  • Experience developing and applying conceptual and numerical groundwater models.
  • Experience with 3D groundwater modelling platforms such as FEFLOW, MODFLOW, HydroGeoSphere or equivalents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for client and multidisciplinary teams.
  • English language with bilingual ability considered an asset.

  • Deliver hydrogeological investigations, assessments and groundwater modelling projects with quality, schedule and budget in mind.
  • Develop conceptual site models (CSMs) and apply modelling tools to support projects.
  • Analyze and visualize geological data, interpret results and develop technical recommendations.
  • Provide field support for geological, geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations.
  • Mentor junior team members and share knowledge across the group.
  • Manage client relationships and contribute to proposals and opportunity development.
  • Advance best practices by applying new modelling techniques and workflows.

Intermediate Groundwater Modeller | Hydrogeologist | P.Eng / P.Geo / EIT / GIT

We are seeking an Intermediate Groundwater Modeller / Hydrogeologist to join our growing Hydrogeology team. Our team supports a diverse range of mining and other sector projects, with expertise spanning hydrogeological investigations, groundwater monitoring, data analysis, hydrogeological assessment, and groundwater modelling. You’ll work alongside experienced hydrogeologists and multidisciplinary teams, gaining hands‑on field and consulting experience while contributing to practical solutions and the continued growth of our Hydrogeology practice.

The Role:

As an Intermediate Groundwater Modeller, you’ll take increasing responsibility for groundwater modelling and hydrogeological projects. You will develop and apply conceptual and numerical groundwater models, analyze hydrogeological data, and provide practical recommendations for engineering, mining, and natural resources projects.

You will:

  • Deliver Projects: Deliver hydrogeological investigations, assessments, and groundwater modelling projects, supporting technical quality, schedule, budget, and client requirements.
  • Apply Technical Expertise: Develop conceptual site models (CSMs) and apply hydrogeological principles, conceptual and numerical modelling tools, and sound technical judgment to support engineering and mining projects.
  • Analyze & Interpret Data: Analyze and visualize geological and hydrogeological data, interpret results, and develop sound technical recommendations.
  • Field Support: Support geological, geotechnical, and hydrogeological field investigations as required.
  • Develop People: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to junior and peer team members, supporting their professional development.
  • Build Relationships: Manage client and stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, regulators, rightsholders, and global technical specialists.
  • Support Business Growth: Contribute to proposals, client pursuits, and opportunity development, helping grow the Hydrogeology and Groundwater Modelling practice.
  • Advance Best Practice: Develop and apply new groundwater modelling techniques, analytical approaches, and technical workflows to solve complex groundwater challenges and contribute to continuous improvement and technical excellence within the practice.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Typically 4–6+ years of relevant professional experience in hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, numerical modelling.
  • Demonstrated experience applying hydrogeological principles to complex groundwater problems.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and applying conceptual and numerical groundwater models.
  • Experience using one or more 3D groundwater numerical modelling platforms such as FEFLOW, MODFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of 3D numerical modelling approaches and their application to hydrogeological problems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound technical judgment.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets, interpret model results, and develop technically defensible recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical findings effectively to clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and increasingly take ownership of technical work and project deliverables.
  • Experience providing technical guidance, mentorship, or knowledge sharing to junior team members is an asset.
  • Experience with Python or other programming/scripting languages for technical analysis, modelling, or workflow automation is an asset.
  • Bi-lingual (English/French or English/Spanish) communication ability is an asset.

Education & Certifications:

  • A Master’s or PhD degree in Mathematics, Physics, Hydrogeological Sciences, Geology, Civil, Environmental, Mining Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant professional experience may also be considered.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT) is considered an asset.

Compensation:

This position is suitable for candidates with varying levels of intermediate experience. The final compensation package will be determined based on the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and overall fit for the role.

  • Canada $85,000 to $120,000 CAD per year + Benefits
Location:

Equilibrium operates globally, with offices in South Brisbane, Australia; Vancouver, Canada; and Portland and Phoenix, USA.

We are accepting applications from candidates from within Canada only. Flexible hybrid and remote-based arrangements will be considered for the right individual, depending on location

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada where the position is based.
  • Occasional domestic and/or international travel may be required for project assignments, meetings, training, field investigations, and other business purposes, including travel to remote project and mine sites. Field assignments may require extended periods away from home.
  • As the Employer operates globally, flexibility in work schedule may be required to support collaboration across different time zones.
  • Depending on project or client requirements, the role may require security, background, criminal record, drug and alcohol, or other screening.
