We are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Planner. The ideal candidate will be motivated, detail-oriented, self-starting, with at least 4 years of experience in environmental assessment (EA), environmental planning, and consulting. You will work with a team of environmental professionals, reporting to Project Managers, and will be responsible for a broad range of tasks.


What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Attend project meetings via Microsoft Teams with clients and provide updates on EA progress.
  • Communicate project updates to internal environmental teams.
  • Prepare and review EA planning reports such as TESRs, EPRs, and ESDs (or DDES/ESM depending on MTO Region).
  • Review technical environmental reports from team members.
  • Assist in preparing proposals and cost estimates related to EA and environmental components.
  • Contribute to project scheduling, update GANTT charts, and manage deliverable timelines.
  • Monitor project budgets and flag concerns to the Project Manager.
  • Review invoicing from sub-consultants for consistency.
  • Prepare change orders for scope modifications.
  • Assist with obtaining permits under O.Reg. 41/24 and review related documentation.
  • Review online resources to inform project proposals and decisions.
  • Stay updated on new legislation and guidance, and relay information to staff.
  • Prepare and review consultation materials and coordinate stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Attend meetings with agencies, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders.
  • Respond to comments and communicate with clients accordingly.
  • Support and review work of junior staff.
  • Liaise with internal and external contacts to address project issues.
  • Ensure QA/QC standards are met in project documentation.
What Your Experience Looks Like
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience leading transportation, transit, and stormwater EAs under Ontario EA legislation.
  • Degree or diploma in environmental planning, urban/regional planning, geography, civil engineering, or related field.
  • Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or eligible for registration is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal EA legislation and guidance.
  • Experience managing stakeholder consultation processes and events.
  • Proficiency in preparing EA documentation such as TESRs, EPRs, ESDs, and related reports.
  • Knowledge of disciplines within EA processes, including fisheries, archaeology, soils, hazardous materials, air quality, and noise.
  • Ability to review technical reports critically.
  • Understanding of permitting processes and approvals.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and team coordination.
  • Excellent client relationship management skills.
  • Ability to support, train, and mentor junior staff.
  • French language skills are an asset.
