Spark Power, a trusted partner in energy in North America, is looking for an Intermediate Engineer to join our Calgary, Alberta team. Spark Power provides a wide range of services to clients, including power system field services, engineering services, maintenance planning, project management, automation services, mechanical engineering support services, training services, and thermographic scanning.

What will you do as an Intermediate Engineer?

1. Manage and coordinate electrical design, drafting, material procurement, construction, and commissioning on projects.
2. Prepare technical documents including electrical drawings, SLDs, three lines, equipment and site layouts, cable and conduit schedules, electrical databases, technical specifications, and contract documents relating to medium and high voltage equipment.
3. Perform and verify electrical design calculations.
4. Conduct power systems studies, including arc flash analysis, using ETAP and SKM.
5. Work with senior engineering personnel in writing and compiling reports/studies/drawings and reviewing design documents, under supervision.
6. Perform other duties as directed by senior engineering personnel, including technical work on assignments of restricted scope.
7. Use a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems.
8. Apply detailed instructions and outlined methods of analysis, design, and computation to carry out project duties.
9. Follow Spark Power and client safety protocols and procedures.
10. Interact with clients in a courteous and professional manner.
11. Make decisions on project work based on established guidelines.
12. Provide recommendations and technical input to senior engineering personnel.
13. Coordinate with the internal drafting team and provide direction.

What we’re looking for:

• Graduate of an accredited Electrical Engineering program.
• Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA.
• Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code; international standards are a plus.
• Proficiency with ETAP or similar software.
• Experience designing 120/208VAC, 480VAC, and 600VAC systems.
• Experience in medium voltage (4.16kV to 25kV) systems.
• Experience in high voltage (138kV to 240kV) systems.
• 4-8 years’ experience in utilities, processing, power generation, or mining.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada (may require a valid work permit).
• Effective collaboration skills.
