Job summary

A leading energy company in Halifax seeks an Intermediate Accountant to join the Corporate External Reporting team. Job description

Intermediate Accountant

Responsibilities
  • Preparation of sections of Emera’s quarterly financial statements and management discussion and analysis (MD&A);
  • Assisting with the preparation of Emera’s consolidated financial results on a monthly basis using Emera’s consolidation software;
  • Preparation of variance analysis reporting on a quarterly basis;
  • Preparation of government reports;
  • Preparation and analysis of financial results;
  • Working with other departments to gather and provide information;
  • Preparing routine and ad‑hoc reports and other accounting and special project responsibilities as assigned;
  • Acting as a backup and support for other team members where applicable;
  • Responsible for execution of internal controls as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce or related field, with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience and an active CPA designation or in‑progress; alternative combinations of education and experience are considered.
  • Strong relationship skills and the ability to work well with people at various levels within the organization;
  • Detail‑oriented with strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven, team‑focused environment while working independently and meeting tight deadlines;
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo, identify continuous improvements and efficiencies, and handle confidential information;
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite and experienced with financial reporting systems, adept at creating and analyzing spreadsheets and reports.
