Job summary

Alstom in Toronto, ON is seeking a full-time Interlocking (IXL) Hardware Design Engineer to design and standardize IXL system architectures, power distribution, and documentation. You will collaborate with Project IXL Design Leaders, V&V, and Install/Testing teams to analyze requirements and drive hardware solutions.

We value experience in complex regulated environments and fluency in English. Bachelor’s in Electrical/Electronic/Automation engineering is required with P.Eng in progress.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in electrical/automation field with relevant exp.
  • Experience in complex, regulated environments (rail signaling preferred).
  • Knowledge of interlocking systems and safety principles.
  • Familiarity with power supply design and testing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design hardware configurations and signaling equipment layouts for IXL systems.
  • Develop AC/DC power distribution architectures including main/sub panels.
  • Perform power load analysis and design backup power configurations (UPS/battery).
  • Adhere to reference design methods and document deviations when needed.
  • Participate in IXL design reviews and provide progress reports.
  • Produce hardware deliverables per project templates and requirements.
  • Support debugging of design issues and change requests.
  • Define pre-fitted solutions for equipment, racks, and cabling with tests.
