Job summary

JMJ PHILLIP is seeking a Senior Interlocking Hardware Design Engineer to lead hardware design, integration, and standardization for railway signaling systems in a regulated environment. You will collaborate with engineering, verification, installation, and testing teams to develop reliable hardware architectures and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, or related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience in systems/subsystems design, integration, or safety-critical product development.
  • Experience in railway signaling, aerospace, defense, or safety-critical industries preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of interlocking systems, safety principles, and power supply design.
  • Experience with hardware configuration, power distribution, and system integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Familiarity with established railway signaling products is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design scheme layouts, hardware configuration drawings, BOPs, BOMs, and signaling equipment room layouts.
  • Design AC/DC power distribution architectures for signaling systems and main/sub panels.
  • Perform power load analysis and backup power configurations using batteries, UPS, and ATS.
  • Define pre-fitted solutions for IXL equipment, including racks and cabling.
  • Ensure hardware designs comply with established methods, tools, and project requirements.
  • Organize and produce hardware design deliverables per templates and requirements.
  • Capture hardware interfaces and environmental constraints; maintain documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide progress updates.
  • Share knowledge of IXL system architecture and hardware design practices.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Interlocking Hardware Design Engineer to support the design, integration, and standardization of hardware solutions for railway signaling systems. This role will work closely with engineering, verification and validation, installation, and testing teams to develop reliable hardware architectures, power distribution systems, and technical documentation for complex and safety-critical environments.

Position Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Architecture
  • Develop design scheme plan layouts, hardware configuration drawings, BOPs, BOMs, and signaling equipment room layouts.
  • Design AC/DC power distribution architectures, including main distribution panels and subpanels for redundant signaling systems.
  • Perform power load analysis and design backup power configurations using batteries, UPS systems, and automatic transfer switches.
  • Define pre-fitted solutions for IXL equipment, including racks, cubicles, and cabling.
  • Ensure hardware designs comply with established application design methods, tools, and project requirements.
Engineering & Technical Documentation
  • Organize and produce hardware design deliverables in accordance with project templates and requirements.
  • Capture hardware interfaces, environmental conditions, and application constraints.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in detailed design review meetings and provide progress updates.
  • Share knowledge of IXL system architecture and hardware design practices with the engineering community.
Project Support & Integration
  • Support project teams in debugging hardware design issues.
  • Analyze and support the resolution of design change requests.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout design, integration, deployment, and testing.
  • Support proper testing and documentation of pre-fitted hardware solutions.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to reference application design methods and established engineering standards.
  • Identify situations requiring deviations and initiate appropriate deviation requests.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of hardware design solutions and processes.
  • Support safe and reliable implementation of signaling hardware within regulated environments.
Prerequisites
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience in systems/subsystems application design, integration, or electrotechnical product development within a complex and regulated environment.
  • Experience in railway signaling, aerospace, defense, or another safety-critical industry is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of interlocking systems, safety principles, and power supply design.
  • Experience with hardware configuration, power distribution, and system integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Familiarity with established railway signaling products and systems is an advantage.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
  • P.Eng. certification or progress toward obtaining it.
  • Additional certifications or training in railway signaling, systems engineering, electrical engineering, or safety-critical systems are preferred.
