Job Title: Insurance Defence Litigation Law Clerk
Location: Toronto, ON
Length of Assignment: Full-time, Permanent
Our client in Toronto, ON is actively looking for an Insurance Defence Litigation Law Clerk to join their team.
Position Description:
- We have an opening for an Insurance Defence Law Clerk with 8+ years of experience in our busy Insurance Defence Practice Group to join our team of Law Clerks.
- The role requires the candidate to perform full clerical work of a responsible and confidential nature with a professional attitude and at the same time an individual who will provide support to their lawyer(s) and team with an emphasis on delivery of excellent service to our clients.
- To be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a solid understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure. In addition, the successful candidate will need to have the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision, along with strong organizational and communication skills.
- Candidates should have over 5 years of experience including:
- Reviewing file materials and assisting in drafting assessments.
- Organizing and managing files or parts of files, including requesting, indexing, and organizing documentary productions.
- Assisting lawyers with drafting pleadings, document production, motions, mediation briefs, pre-trial briefs, and preparing for hearings and trials, ensuring all parties are served.
- Reviewing and summarizing transcripts of examinations for discovery, undertakings, refusals, and answers to undertakings.
- Corresponding with counsel to ensure receipt of all productions, including liability and damage productions from co-defendants and plaintiffs.
- Supporting matters related to professional negligence, product liability, motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall claims.
- Communicating effectively and acting as liaison between the client and lawyer for day-to-day matters.
- Maintaining knowledge of and complying with the firm's practice and file management policies and procedures.
- Docketing time and billings accordingly.
- Participating in the analysis of claims.
