Job summary

Agilus Work Solutions in Mississauga, partnering with Hatch, seeks an Instrumentation & Control Engineer to support on-site commissioning and office-based engineering for major infrastructure projects.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with a P.Eng., 12+ years project experience including commissioning, and hands-on PLC/DCS programming with Rockwell, DeltaV or ABB platforms. Travel is required and collaboration with clients and contractors is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and P.Eng. designation.
• 12+ years of project engineering experience including commissioning.
• Strong background in electrical design and consulting on large multidisciplinary projects.
• Hands-on site experience with ability to work independently.
• Experience programming PLC/DCS with Rockwell; DeltaV/ABB exposure.
• Proficiency with 3D and data-centric design tools (SmartPlant Electrical/Instrumentation, AutoCAD, MicroStation).

Responsibilities

• Assist with scope, cost, and schedule management and prepare technical docs for approval.
• Own project deliverables and ensure tasks meet schedule with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, guiding contractor personnel.
• Independently perform commissioning activities, including FAT and SAT, on site.
• Coordinate engineering activities to match project scope, schedule, and QA.
• Review deliverables, shop drawings, and docs for design compliance.
• Oversee fabrication/construction after award; witness FATs and address audits.
• Develop Functional Control Specifications and programs; report progress.

Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for a Instrumentation & Control Engineer in the Engineering consulting industry in Mississauga, Ontario.

The Instrumentation & Control Engineer will report to the Project Manager on small projects and for larger projects, to the Control, Automation and Electrical Lead Engineer.

This role will be responsible for on-site commissioning engineer and office-based as Instrumentation & Control Engineer.

A typical day:

• Support project execution by assisting with scope, cost, and schedule management, and preparing technical documentation for approval by the Control, Automation and Electrical Lead Engineer.
• Take ownership of project deliverables, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule with minimal supervision and in accordance with project requirements.
• Collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders, while providing guidance and oversight to contractor personnel.
• Independently execute commissioning activities, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), while troubleshooting and resolving technical issues on site.
• Coordinate and monitor engineering activities to ensure work progresses in accordance with project scope, schedules, procedures, and quality assurance requirements.
• Review engineering deliverables, shop drawings, and interdisciplinary documentation to ensure compliance with design standards and project specifications.
• Oversee fabrication and construction activities following contract award, witness FATs, implement corrective actions, and address findings from quality audits.
• Develop Functional Control Specifications, program control systems, prepare engineering progress reports, and provide regular updates on engineering work package status.

Successful candidates will have:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with PEO.
• 12+ years of project engineering experience, including 2-3 years of commissioning experience.
• Strong background in electrical design and consulting within large, multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Hands-on site experience with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and perform effectively with minimal supervision.
• Experience programming PLC/DCS control systems, with preference for Rockwell and exposure to DeltaV and ABB platforms.
• Proficiency with 3D and data-centric design tools, including SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
• Proven leadership, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to delegate tasks, supervise teams, and resolve issues in fast-paced environments.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and safety awareness skills, with a willingness to travel as required.
