Job summary

CAE is seeking an BFT Instructor Pilot to train military aviators at Moose Jaw, delivering classroom, synthetic training, and live flying in the G120TP. The role emphasizes instruction quality, safety, and adherence to RCAF standards.

The ideal candidate has TC commercial licence and instructor rating, with recent military or professional flight experience, and strong English communication for teaching in an English‑language environment.

  • Maintain flying proficiency and currency per applicable regulations and SOW.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings and presentations, including A Category ground school.
  • Support creation, maintenance, and review of procedures, manuals, and documentation.
  • Participate in routine reviews and continuous improvement of courseware.

Job description

As part of CAE’s Defence & Security team, BFT Instructor Pilots prepare military aviators to execute critical missions with confidence and operational readiness. You will contribute to shaping the next generation of RCAF pilots through classroom instruction, synthetic training, and live flying in the G120TP aircraft.

Key Responsibilities (During System Build-Up)
  • Complete aircraft type conversion training.
  • Support the design and development of courseware, including classroom, synthetic training device, and live flying sequences.
  • Support acceptance testing of courseware, aircraft, and synthetic training devices.
  • Contribute to the establishment of an Integrated Training Centre by creating policy and procedure documents.
  • Support the integration and testing of Learning and Information Management systems.
  • Test synthetic training device lesson plans and G120TP Air Lesson Plans (ALPs).
Key Responsibilities (During Steady-State Operations)
  • Deliver instruction in classrooms, on synthetic training devices, and in the G120TP aircraft.
  • Maintain flying proficiency and currency in accordance with B‑GA‑100, RCAF FOM, 2 CFFTS Orders, and CQFI SOW.
  • Conduct instructional sorties following RCAF doctrine.
  • Execute all missions in the BFT syllabus, including cross‑country and out‑and‑back missions.
  • Assist Flight Commanders in monitoring student continuity.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings and presentations, including A Category ground school where applicable.
  • Comply with CAF Flight Safety protocols (A‑GA‑135‑001/AA‑001).
  • Support creation, maintenance, and review of procedures, manuals, and documentation.
  • Support OA and TA organizations as a subject matter expert.
  • Participate in routine reviews and continuous improvement of courseware.
  • Perform Maintenance Test Pilot duties as assigned.
CQFI Expectations
  • Instruct on Clearhood, Instrument, Navigation, Formation, and Composite missions.
  • Potentially support Standards, staff development, and QFI training based on performance.
Currency Requirements
  • Aeromedical Training (IAW CADO 5‑301)
  • Spatial Disorientation Training
  • Centrifuge Training
  • Escape Systems / Ground Egress Training
  • ALSE Training
  • Sea Survival Training
  • Air Operations Survival – Land
  • Servicing training for cross‑country flights
  • St. John’s Ambulance first aid certification (including CPR & AED)
  • Fire prevention/extinguisher training (every 4 years)
Minimum Qualifications
For candidates with NO prior military experience:
  • Minimum 500 hours of flight time on a single‑pilot, high‑performance aeroplane.
  • Transport Canada commercial pilot licence.
  • Current or previously held Transport Canada instructor rating.
For Candidates WITH Prior Military Experience
  • Demonstrated military experience meeting Prior Learning Assessment requirements.
For All Candidates
  • English Language Proficiency: We welcome candidates from diverse linguistic and professional backgrounds. As the role requires a strong command of English for instructional purposes, applicants are expected to demonstrate advanced English proficiency, which may be demonstrated through TOEFL results or relevant teaching experience in an English‑language flight training setting.
  • Military or professional flying experience within the last 10 years.
  • Unrestricted Transport Canada Category 1 medical, plus any RCAF‑required medical exams.
  • Meet aircraft body weight and anthropometric limits.
  • Must pass Controlled Goods security evaluation and meet US ITAR re‑transfer compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous NFTC QFI or Grob G120TP QFI experience.
  • Military flying supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Flight lead experience (trainer or fighter aircraft).
  • Military instructional experience.
  • RAWC Operational Test & Evaluation Course or recognized equivalent.
