Job summary

PAL Aerospace is seeking an experienced Q400 Training Pilot to join our Winnipeg team as Senior Training Captain. You will train CT142Q pilots, oversee currency and proficiency, and support the FAcT program with MSAT operations alongside RCAF personnel.

The role involves instructional missions, weather and mission briefs, and leadership of a flying unit in a high-stakes defense context. A strong aviation background and supervisory experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Recent (within 10 years) military or professional flying experience.
  • Military flight instruction experience at an Operational Training Unit or higher, or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge of DND Squadron Operations.
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience within a flying unit.
  • Experience in leading and supporting large-scale training programs.
  • Understanding of RCAF rear crew training system and reporting mechanisms.
  • Group 1 Instrument Rating and Unrestricted Night Rating or equivalent RCAF/Military Captain category.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Train, monitor, and supervise CT142Q pilots under 402 Squadron and MSAT Chief Pilot.
  • Manage CT142Q pilot training, currency, proficiency, and evaluation requirements.
  • Support flightline operations, dispatching, and Airworthiness for the FAcT program and MSAT.
  • Fly as a CT142Q pilot to support ACSO and AES Op training with briefings and debriefs.
  • Act as Aircraft Commander for instructional missions and currency flights.
  • Provide feedback on pilot progression and proficiency via the Chief Pilot.
  • Support ramp-up activities and Training Steady State, courseware development, OT&E efforts.
  • Assist with certification of Flight Dispatch Personnel and Squadron Operations accreditation.
  • Engage in required briefings and instructor development activities.

PAL Aerospace, in partnership with SkyAlyne —the prime contractor for Canada’s Future Aircrew Training ( FAcT ) Program—is delivering cutting-edge training to prepare Air Combat Systems Officers (ACSOs), and Airborne Electronic Sensor Operators (AES Ops) for the demands of modern operations. Based in Winnipeg, you’ll play a key role in supporting flight operations and flying challenging mission profiles using three missionized De Havilland Dash 8-400 (CT-142Q Citadel) aircraft with 402 Squadron. PAL Aerospace is searching for an experienced pilot to be the Q400 Training Pilot to join our team in Winnipeg, MB . As Senior Training Captain, you'll help shape the future of RCAF aircrew. This is a unique opportunity where you, as a civilian, can be part of the RCAF community!

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsive to the Commanding Officer of 402 Squadron through the Q400 Multi Sensor Aircrew Trainer (MSAT) CT142Q Chief Pilot and the Contractor, to train, monitor, and supervise the Line CT142Q pilots.
  • Responsible to manage all CT142Q pilot training, currency, proficiency and evaluation requirements; ensuring all CT142Q pilots are qualified and current.
  • Assist with the management of the daily activities and resources that will support flightline operations, dispatching, and the Airworthiness requirements of the FAcT flying program and MSAT.
  • Fly as a qualified CT142Q pilot to support ACSO and AES Op training, performing all associated activities that support the instructional mission including weather briefs, crew/mission briefs and crew/mission debriefs.
  • Execute the duties of the Aircraft Commander for instructional missions and pilot currency flights.
  • Conduct pilot proficiency and upgrade checks on MSAT pilots and maintain relevant electronic progress books. Provide analysis and feedback through the Chief Pilot regarding pilot progression and proficiency.
  • Provide pilot subject matter expertise to support the FAcT r amp up and transition-in activities up to Ready for Training (RFT) and Training Steady State (TSS). These activities enable the school house stand-up, Operational Readiness Testing(ORT) and Field Trials (FTs), supporting courseware development, Operational Test & Evaluation (OT&E) and customer acceptance activities. Participate on the Training Development Team (TDT)working group, as required.
  • Support certification of the Flight Dispatch Personnel and assist with Squadron Operations accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in Wing, Squadron, and Flight-mandated briefings, instructor development briefings, Fatigue Risk Management System training, as well as participate in Progress Review Boards and Instructor Reviews, as required.
Experience & Qualifications:
  • Recent (within 10 years) military or professional flying experience, or 500+ hrs Pilot-in-Command on multi-crew aircraft.
  • Military flight Instruction experience at an Operational Training Unit, Conversion Flight, or higher-level school, or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge, gained by formal training or work experience of DND Squadron Operations.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related supervisory experience within a flying unit whose flight operations are similar in size and scope.
  • Minimum of two(2)years of experience in leading and supporting large scale training programs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of RCAF rear crew training system, organizations/hierarchy and reporting mechanisms.
  • Leading people and teams / supporting operations.
  • Transport Canada IATRA or ATPL exams complete or equivalent RCAF/military Fixed Multi-Engine Aircraft Captain category (PLAR completed).
  • Group 1 Instrument Rating and Unrestricted Night Rating or RCAF Cat I Unrestricted Instrument
Rating (or equivalent).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • If not a native English speaker, must achieve “Advanced” on all TOEFL components.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Test flying experience (military or professional) within the last 10 years.
  • Experience on the DHC Dash 8-400 and or CT-142 Dash 8.
  • RCAF Instrument Check Pilot or Approved Check Pilot qualification.
  • Experience with RCAF OT&E activities.
  • Completion of RCAF Aerospace Warfare Centre (RAWC) Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) Course.
  • RCAF Flight Safety Qualification.
  • Bilingual (French and English).
Medical Category:

Must meet and maintain the following medical requirements:

  • an unrestricted TC Category I Medical;
  • Aeromedical Training including classroom training, hypoxia recognition training (HRT)and physiological simulator training.
Security Responsibilities:

Incumbent must be able to obtain the required level of Government of Canada Personnel Security Clearance.
