Job description

Established in 1976, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our eight Career Centres across the province. As the educational leader in the classroom, the Instructor in the Information Technology Support Specialist (ITSS) Certificate program will be responsible for delivering SIIT programs and curricula with the purpose of promoting student success. This position is to organize and implement instructional activities which create a learning environment that guides and provides the greatest opportunity for student success. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate. These include the following broad range of accountabilities:

  1. Deliver courses relating to: Technical Support, Service Management (ITIL), Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Security and Communications.
  2. Complete all course-required materials including attendance records and course evaluations.
  3. Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress within set time frames.
  4. Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment.
  5. Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures.
  6. Maintain classroom and shop discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary action.
  7. Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience: A computing related degree or diploma from an accredited institution. An understanding of adult learning theories and principles is considered an asset. For success in this position, a genuine commitment to help students learn and succeed is required. Prior experience in a technical support role would be preferred. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset.
