Job summary

The YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is seeking a Group Fitness Instructor to lead daytime group exercise sessions at East Lambton (Watford) and Lambton Shores (Forest). Start date September 2026, with shifts largely daytime and one shift per week or 4 hours per month.

Rate of pay ranges from 17.60 to 25.00 CAD per hour. Qualified candidates will hold a YMCA Group Fitness certification (or MOSSA, Aquatic Fitness, Yoga) and maintain First Aid/CPR, a current vulnerable sector check, and vaccination

Qualifications

  • Group fitness certification (YMCA Group Fitness streams, MOSSA, Aquatic Fitness, Yoga, and additional certifications).
  • Current First Aid and CPR.
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required per YMCA policy; exemptions considered with proof; policy suspended as of 2022 and may be reinstated.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality group exercise instruction.
  • Generate positive experiences for participants with excellent customer service.
  • Ensure a safe, fun, and enthusiastic class environment.
  • Arrive ten minutes early to set up equipment and prep class.
  • Educate and motivate participants to perform movements safely.
  • Act as a YMCA ambassador and uphold core values in daily work.

  • Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers
  • It is a YMCA of Southwestern Ontario requirement that all employees and volunteers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions will be granted upon receipt of acceptable proof of a permissible Human Rights Code ground. This requirement has been suspended effective June 30, 2022. It may be reinstated in future should the state of public health in our communities require it.

Schedule
  • This is a casual/coverage position with varying hours - expectation is one shift per week or 4 hours worked per month
  • Varying shifts including mornings, daytime, evenings and weekends
  • This particular position is for predominantly daytime shifts (8 am – 12 pm)

  • Arrive ten minutes prior to class and ensure all necessary equipment is set up prior to class commencement
  • Educate and motivate class participants
  • Be able to role model movements safely and effectively
