Job description

Let’s reimagine access to Canadian education, together.

Boreal Education is an EdTech company that empowers Canadian post-secondary institutions to grow and develop distance, hybrid and online education programs. Lifelong learning is becoming increasingly necessary for professionals to match the pace of automation and digitization in the workplace. Universities and Colleges must adapt to this changing profile of learners by focusing on flexible, employer-driven and digital-first programming.

To achieve this mission, we’re looking for Instructional Designers to join the Boreal team. This person will be developing the courses for our first programs, laying our foundation for our students’ success and our company growth.

We’re leading the Canadian post-secondary sector to create and market online programs that put the learner at the centre and transform communities along the way. This role helps us accomplish that collective mission.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our Instructional Designers play a key role in creating, developing, and revising content that creates an effective online learning environment. You will collaborate with subject matter experts, faculty, and other stakeholders at our University Partners to ensure that our courses are not only academically rigorous but also engaging and interactive for working professional students. You will have the opportunity to use your creativity and expertise to design innovative learning experiences that meet the needs of our diverse student population.

This is a highly collaborative role where strong communication and project management skills are essential. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of instructional design principles, pedagogical theory, and emerging trends in educational technology.

You will make an impact by:

  • Partnering with faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop high-quality instructional materials based on desired learning objectives and outcomes.
  • Designing and developing engaging and interactive learning activities, including multimedia components and assessments in Desire2Learn’s Brightspace platform.
  • Utilizing instructional design models, emerging technologies, pedagogical theory and educational tools to guide the development process.
  • Keeping up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in instructional design.
  • Collaborating with the web development and accessibility teams to ensure courses are created according to University specifications and requirements.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Demonstrated experience in online instructional design or curriculum development for university-level academic programs. Knowledge of learning theories, instructional design principles, and emerging educational technologies.
  • Proficient in Desire2Learn’s Brightspace, Articulate Rise and other instructional design software or learning management systems.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working collaboratively with faculty and subject matter experts.
  • Degree in instructional design, education, or related field. Master’s degree is helpful but not required.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
