Innovatia is seeking a Senior Lead Instructional Designer to join our high-performing learning team. This pivotal role will lead the design and development of complex learning solutions that address diverse organizational needs across multiple industries and formats.

As a strategic thinker and hands-on practitioner, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth needs analysis, synthesizing diverse and sometimes conflicting content inputs, and managing client relationships to ensure learning solutions are impactful, scalable, and aligned to business goals. You will play a central role in resolving ambiguity, shaping learning strategies, and mentoring other designers.

Employment Type: Contract
Location: Remote Canada

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design of complex learning experiences, from needs assessment through to solution deployment.
  • Conduct instructional analysis to identify performance gaps and design targeted interventions across digital, blended, and instructor-led formats.
  • Work directly with clients and SMEs to clarify objectives, define scope, and shape content—resolving ambiguity and driving alignment.
  • Synthesize information from multiple and diverse content sources (technical documents, interviews, existing training, etc.) into cohesive, learner-centric designs.
  • Develop detailed design documents, storyboards, and prototypes for e-learning, simulations, performance support, and job aids.
  • Ensure learning solutions align with adult learning principles, accessibility standards, and measurement strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including media developers, project managers, and stakeholders, to ensure quality and timeliness.
  • Provide peer reviews and mentorship to other instructional designers and contractors, upholding best practices and brand consistency.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in instructional design, with a strong focus on complex, enterprise-level learning solutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in needs analysis, stakeholder facilitation, and content synthesis across technical and non-technical subject areas.
  • Exceptional communication and client engagement skills—able to guide conversations, influence outcomes, and build trust.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in learning design tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, or Vyond and the ability to quickly evaluate and upskill on new tools as required.
  • Strong command of instructional theory (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Kirkpatrick Model).

Preferred

  • Experience working in or consulting for regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, government).
  • Background in user experience (UX) or service design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile or other iterative development methodologies.
