Job summary

Health Sciences North seeks a skilled Social Worker to provide direct and indirect support in the Emergency Department and inpatient units, managing behavioural risk interventions. You will perform risk assessments, crisis counselling, and connect individuals to services, while collaborating with physicians and hospital staff to promote safety and positive outcomes.

You will lead education initiatives, contribute to policy updates, and participate in ongoing professional development to support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited university.
  • Certificate of Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers is required.
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate is required.
  • Completion of Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills training, Trauma Informed Care, Violence Threat Risk Assessment and Brief Solution Focused Therapy training is preferred.
  • Ministry of Labour Health & Safety Awareness in 4 Steps training is required.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to individuals likely to demonstrate high risk behaviours requiring support.
  • Complete behaviour risk assessments for high risk individuals.
  • Provide Behavioural Intervention services using motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, and related techniques.
  • Collaborate with hospital staff and community partners to ensure safety and continuity of care.
  • Develop and lead training curriculum for HSN employees on behavioural escalation management.
  • Support policy development and quality improvement initiatives related to workplace safety and patient care.
