  • Support prototype, pilot, and mass production; troubleshoot issues.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings, and mold documentation.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure tooling meets requirements.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Injection Mold Design Engineer to join our product development team. This role will work closely with Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers, Product Development Teams, and Tool & Die Makers to develop injection-molded components for advanced drone and robotic systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing robust, production-ready molds that meet the demanding performance, weight, durability, and aesthetic requirements of aerospace and robotic applications.

This role would be located at 69 Yonge Street, Toronto Ontario M5E 1K3

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop injection molds for plastic components used in drones, robotics, charging stations, sensors, enclosures, and related products.
  • Collaborate with Industrial Designers to ensure product aesthetics are maintained while optimizing designs for manufacturability and tooling efficiency.
  • Work directly with Tool & Die Makers throughout mold fabrication, assembly, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and provide recommendations for part optimization, cost reduction, and production scalability.
  • Design mold features including cooling systems, runners, gates, ejector systems, slides, lifters, inserts, and hot runner systems.
  • Perform mold flow analysis to optimize part quality, reduce defects, and minimize cycle times.
  • Support prototype development, pilot production, and mass manufacturing activities.
  • Troubleshoot molding and tooling issues related to warpage, sink marks, weld lines, flash, dimensional variation, and cosmetic defects.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and mold documentation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure tooling meets quality, performance, and production requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for product and tooling development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Design, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in injection mold design and plastic part development.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, ProEngineer, Creo, or equivalent CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of injection molding processes, mold construction, plastic material properties, and tooling best practices.
  • Experience working closely with Tool & Die Makers and mold manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of mold flow simulation software such as Autodesk Moldflow or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience designing molds for high-precision plastic components.

  • Experience with lightweight engineering materials including glass-filled nylons, PC-ABS, PBT, ABS, and high-performance engineering plastics.
  • Knowledge of overmolding, insert molding, multi-shot molding, and thin-wall injection molding.
  • Familiarity with environmental and durability requirements including vibration, impact resistance, UV exposure, and temperature cycling.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can bridge the gap between industrial design, product engineering, and tooling manufacturing. They possess deep expertise in injection molding and can develop tooling solutions that enable lightweight, durable, and visually refined components for next-generation drone and robotic products while working closely with Tool & Die Makers to ensure successful manufacturing outcomes.
