Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible to obtain registration in the near term.
  • 5-8 years of geotechnical engineering experience, preferably supporting dam, hydroelectric, water resource, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience performing geotechnical analyses and interpreting subsurface investigation and instrumentation data.
  • Working knowledge of dam safety practices, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and CDA guidelines.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, and construction support documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to technical excellence and continuous learning.

As an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer - Hydro & Dams, you will contribute to the planning, assessment, design, rehabilitation, and safety of critical water infrastructure projects across Canada. Working alongside multidisciplinary Hydro & Dams teams, you'll collaborate with geotechnical, structural, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical professionals to deliver resilient engineering solutions that support communities and sustainable energy development.

Your Impact
  • Support the design and rehabilitation of embankment dams, dykes, cofferdams, and related geotechnical infrastructure from planning through detailed design.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses and interpret site investigation data to develop safe, practical, and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Participate in dam inspections, Dam Safety Reviews, and assessments of geotechnical instrumentation to support risk identification and mitigation recommendations.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and field investigations while ensuring compliance with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet client, regulatory, and project objectives.
  • Contribute to technical reporting, specifications, design calculations, and drawing reviews that support successful project delivery.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews, project meetings, and technical discussions to maintain high engineering standards.
  • Build strong client and stakeholder relationships while contributing to the continued growth of WSP's Hydro & Dams practice.
The Skills That Set You Apart

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $77,400 - $102,500

MB & ON: $70,600 - $97,200

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $69,900 - $92,900
