Job summary

WSP is shaping the future of dam engineering in Canada. We are seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer specializing in Dams, based on Vancouver Island or elsewhere in British Columbia, to deliver landmark projects that support resilient communities across BC and the Yukon.

You will act as a Qualified Professional, lead the growth of the dams capability locally and nationally, and guide multidisciplinary teams from early engagement to completion.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering.
  • P.Eng. registration with EGBC or eligibility.
  • Knowledge of BC Dam Safety Regulation and CDA Guidelines.
  • 15+ years of geotechnical/geomechanics experience with a strong focus on dams.
  • Experience with key geotechnical software (GeoStudio, Rocscience).
  • Proven track record delivering projects on time and on budget.
  • Initiative, independence and a passion for advancing geotechnical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and lead geotechnical studies and reports influencing design outcomes.
  • Oversee geotechnical investigations, procurement processes, contractor evaluations, and project execution.
  • Support field operations through leadership in geotechnical investigations, instrumentation, monitoring, construction reviews, and data collection programs.
  • Serve as Project Manager or Project Director with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, client relationships, and team performance.

You bring:

  • A degree in Civil or Geological Engineering.
  • Registration as a P.Eng. with EGBC or eligibility for registration.
  • 15+ years of experience in geotechnical or geomechanics engineering, with a strong focus on dams.

Compensation
  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $147,500 – $195,400
  • MB & ON: $134,600 – $184,600
  • NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $133,200 – $176,900
