Job summary

WSP is seeking a seasoned Project Director – Hydropower and Dams (Western Canada) to shape strategy, strengthen client partnerships, and deliver transformative projects across Western Canada. Ideal candidates will lead major projects, mentor teams, and drive growth while ensuring profitable delivery.

The role requires 20+ years in hydropower/dams, P.Eng. eligibility in Western Canada, and the ability to travel 10–20%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 20+ years of project management experience in hydropower or dams.
  • Proven business development and strategic growth within Canadian hydropower and dams.
  • Registered or eligible for P.Eng. in Western Canada.
  • Established network with power utilities and dam owners in Western Canada.
  • Proven ability to lead client engagement and develop long-term partnerships.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to travel within Western Canada (10–20%).

  • Be the Project Director on major infrastructure dams and hydropower projects.
  • Provide leadership and governance for projects and programs.
  • Mentor major Project Managers and establish project vision and execution strategies.
  • Ensure coordination among engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, and stakeholders.
  • Lead steering committees and executive reviews; manage client relationships.
  • Identify growth opportunities and oversee commercial discussions.
  • Ensure project profitability, revenue, cash flow, and financial performance.
  • Oversee pursuit strategies, proposals, and client presentations.

As Project Director – Hydropower and Dams (Western Canada), you will play a pivotal role in shaping strategy, strengthening client partnerships, and delivering impactful projects that support resilient, sustainable energy systems across Western Canada. This is a high-impact leadership role where your expertise fuels business growth, guides complex project delivery, and contributes to a national vision for the future of hydropower and dam infrastructure. This position will, ideally, be based out of one of our Western offices, ideally, Calgary or Vancouver.

Your Impact
  • Be the Project Director on major infrastructure dams and hydropower projects
  • Provide overall leadership and governance for major projects and programs
  • Mentor major Project Managers
  • Establish project vision, objectives, execution strategies, and success criteria
  • Ensure effective coordination among engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, and stakeholder teams
  • Lead project steering committees and executive review meetings
  • Act as the senior point of contact for clients and key stakeholders
  • Build and maintain client relationship at the project level
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and strategic growth
  • Manage high-level commercial and contractual discussions
  • Be accountable for project profitability, revenue, cash flow, and financial performance
  • Approve significant project expenditures and change orders
  • Ensure effective risk and opportunity management
  • Oversee winning pursuit strategies, proposals, and client presentations across multidisciplinary teams
  • Collaborate with national sector leaders to participate in implementation and execute strategic growth plans
  • Identify resource needs, support recruitment efforts, and help build a high-performing regional team
  • Foster a strong team culture by promoting engagement, collaboration, and professional development
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • At least 20 years of strong project management in hydropower or dams
  • Demonstrated success in business development and strategic growth within the Canadian hydropower and dams sector
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a P.Eng. in at least one province in Western Canada
  • Established network and relationships with power utilities and dam owners in Western Canada
  • Proven ability to lead client engagement and develop long-term partnerships
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to travel within Western Canada (10–20%)

Compensation
  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $147,500 – $195,400
  • MB & ON: $134,600 – $184,600
  • NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $133,200 – $176,900

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The wage range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
