As an Infrastructure Technologist, you’ll lead technical reviews and planning initiatives that guide responsible roadside development and future highway improvements. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating with municipalities, supporting project scoping and programming, and ensuring that development aligns with long-term transportation plans. This is a dynamic, multi-faceted role that connects technical insight with strategic planning.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and guiding development applications to ensure alignment with highway safety and long-term infrastructure goals
  • Supporting the planning and administration of infrastructure studies, including Terms of Reference development and consultant selection
  • Assisting in the preparation of project scoping documents by analyzing geometric and safety assessments and coordinating with internal teams
  • Identifying and proposing highway network improvements through transportation safety reviews, planning studies, and cost estimation
  • Collaborating with municipalities and internal stakeholders to address development proposals and their implications on highway plans
  • Preparing technical reports, briefing notes, and municipal funding agreements to support informed decision-making
  • Providing expert guidance to developers and municipal partners regarding Traffic Impact Assessments (TIAs) and highway-related planning requirements

  • A related technical diploma (e.g., Civil Engineering Technology), supplemented by at least six (6) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent
  • Ability to read and interpret technical reports and analyze numerical data to inform planning and development decisions
  • Background in development technology policies and acts including or experience supporting development applications and assessments
  • Familiarity with highway geometric design standards and guidelines
  • Understanding of highway planning principles and application of highway design guides


Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the local region, including transportation needs and development trends
  • Understanding of municipal government structures, processes, and planning frameworks
  • Awareness of regional priorities, ongoing infrastructure projects, and community development dynamics

Equivalencies are:

  • A related four-year degree and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.

  • This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
  • Location :
    • Provincial Building, Main Floor, 10320 - 99 St, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 6J4
    • Provincial Building, 9621 96 Ave, Peace River, AB T8S 1T4
  • Since Grande Prairie and Peace River are between the 55th and 57th parallels, eligible employees will receive an annual retention bonus of $6,000, minus deductions.
  • Traveling will consist of 50-75% of the work schedule.
