Job summary

Affirm is building a scalable, remote-first infrastructure team focused on the foundational layer across AWS, IAM, and networking. You will define multi-quarter roadmaps and own the reliability of core infrastructure while growing a team of engineers dedicated to high reliability and secure, scalable platforms.

You’ll mentor engineers, drive collaboration with security, and push for automation that enables other teams to provision and destroy complex stacks safely.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software or infrastructure engineering, with 2+ years of engineering management experience
• Proven experience leading engineering teams in infrastructure, platform engineering, or adjacent domains
• Strong technical background in cloud-native and infrastructure systems (AWS preferred) with ability to guide architecture across accounts, VPC networking, and IAM
• Experience owning or leading Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform, Spacelift, or equivalent) and GitOps workflows
• Experience building and operating infrastructure automation that other teams adopt and depend on
• Track record of operating services with a high reliability bar (monitoring, on-call, incident response, postmortems, continuous hardening)
• Strong operational judgment and ability to drive clarity, prioritization, and execution across a broad surface area
• Familiarity with least-privilege IAM models and partnering with Security on access governance
• Strong programming background (Python, Go, or Kotlin preferred)
• Strong communication and organizational leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and growing high-performing teams
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the vision and multi-quarter roadmap for Infra Foundations, balancing foundational investments with reliability work
• Lead and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers, owning hiring, performance, and career growth
• Partner with engineering leadership to align Infra Foundations priorities with broader goals
• Own the reliability and safety of the foundational layer: AWS provisioning, core networking, and IAM access
• Drive automation to let teams provision and teardown complex environments safely via IaC rails
• Steward programs like AWS quota management, patching, and Ansible configuration management
• Establish and uphold SLAs for IAM requests, quota alerts, and incident response
• Collaborate with Security to enforce least-privilege access across teams
• Promote adoption of Infra Foundations frameworks through self-service tooling and docs
