Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management as we all benefit from the natural health and wealth of the province.

About Our Opportunity

The Crown Land Information Management Centre is responsible for maintaining a registry of conveyancing documents, survey plans and maps of Crown land holdings, providing access to Crown land records, researching Crown interests in land, and maintaining the Crown Cadastral Database.

As the Information Processing Technician, you will maintain an accurate and complete register of Crown land ownership records, administer and provide user support for the department’s electronic document management system, and provide Crown land information to internal and external clients.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Information Processing Technician, we count on your strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain an accurate and complete register of Crown lands ownership records. In addition, you are the primary system administrator of the Crown lands electronic document management system, a significant business application used by multiple provincial governments departments to access current and historical Crown land information. This position also completes digitization of Crown land records, ensuring appropriate standards are followed to maintain the integrity, consistency, reliability, and accuracy of the captured information, in compliance with the Government Records Act, Public Archives Act, Freedom of Information Protection of Privacy Act, Personal Information International Disclosure Protection Act and provincial/corporate records management policies and standards.

Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have high school completion, graduation from a Vocational Data Processing Program along with 4 years technical experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered; graduation from a certification program in the field of Information Technology or Records Management would be considered an asset.

As the ideal candidate, you have working knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and in-depth knowledge of principles, standards, practices, and techniques of electronic document management systems, database management, and records management. You have a practical understanding of systems application testing, problem resolution and provide effective user systems support. Requires exceptional communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders along with experience delivering presentations, workshops, and training sessions. You must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications. You have organization and planning skills that allow you to multi-task while adapting to a fast-paced environment, staying in line with the department’s goals and objectives. You are a team player who works well with others and promotes a positive work environment, and is supportive of diversity and inclusion.

Although not required, it is considered an asset if you are familiar with:

  • land registration systems;
  • municipal, provincial, and federal jurisdictions and responsibilities pertaining to lands;
  • administration of government land holdings.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
