Job Summary

We are seeking a Journeyman Millwright to focus on installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing stationary industrial machinery, mechanical systems, and mechanical equipment. The Journeyman Millwright reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

This is a full-time position, with rotating 12-hour shifts, with a proposed hourly pay range of $[to be filled].

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and layout work assignments from complex blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions and accomplish these assignments efficiently.
  • Operate mobile material handling equipment to position machinery and parts during installation, setup, and repair.
  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair plant machinery, equipment, systems, and structures safely and competently.
  • Use all tools and operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders for overhaul, maintenance, or setup.
  • Construct foundations for machinery or supervise others in foundation construction.
  • Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
  • Create work orders in the computer maintenance management system (CMMS) for tasks exceeding 10 minutes.
  • Close out work orders and provide feedback to maintenance planners and supervisors.
  • Provide training and guidance to apprentices or helpers during their duties.
  • Stay updated with all relevant codes affecting repair, maintenance, safety, and construction.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and keep accurate records.
  • Proactively work to improve plant mechanical performance and suggest improvements.
  • Collaborate with other staff during emergencies, shutdowns, and non-operational periods to restore equipment quickly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent in reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Journeyman certificate as a Millwright required; interprovincial red seal is an asset.
  • Forklift certification required; internal training available.
  • Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.

Working Conditions

The role involves almost 100% time spent in the plant environment, requiring physical labor such as lifting (50-100 lbs.), pulling, pushing, standing, and walking. Exposure to heat, dust, noise, and equipment hazards is common. Sensory attention is necessary, and work pace may be unpredictable, requiring stress management.
