Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of sheet metal design experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Industrial Design and Product Design, with a portfolio showcasing relevant work.
  • Experience applying Design Thinking and Product Development methodologies to create practical, user-centered solutions.
  • Hands-on skills in Prototyping, including building models, evaluating materials, and iterating based on testing.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks and 3D modeling capabilities, and ability to produce accurate technical drawings.
  • In depth knowledge of sheet metal design processes, forming and fabrication techniques.
  • Strong foundation in construction principles.
  • Excellent with aluminum extrusion design and fabrication.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication methods relevant to signage, enclosures, and architectural structures.
  • Ability to work on-site in Brantford, ON, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent visual, written, and verbal communication, presentation skills, with attention to detail and organization.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in commercial, retail, transit, or architectural product environments is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Use SolidWorks to create models, fabrication drawings, weldment drawings, assembly drawings, renderings and installation/layout packages.
  • Frequent use of Sheet Metal and Weldment profile features within SolidWorks.
  • Develop top-level concept models for client review and refine designs while maintaining revision history and utilizing scalable models that can be adjusted efficiently.
  • Translate sketches, field notes, photographs, and design discussions into detailed assembly models and part drawings.
  • Development and testing of custom aluminum extrusion profiles to improve and grow our product line.
  • Development of custom hinges, locks and sealing systems used in digital enclosures.
  • Produce BOMs and RFQs for procurement and fabrication.
  • Interpret structural, architectural, and elevation drawings of existing buildings and supporting environments.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to resolve fabrication issues and revise designs when required.
  • Participate in design review meetings with management and client teams.
  • Update assemblies and drawing packages to reflect final as-built conditions after project closeout.

Trade Sync’s services span engineering and manufacturing, custom products, static and digital signage, Overhead Sign Structures (OSS), structural sub-structures, transit products, and architectural structures. Operating from purpose-built facilities in Southwestern Ontario, the organization manages projects ranging from small local contracts to large commercial roll-outs. With in-house designers, project managers, and installation teams, Trade Sync is structured to deliver quality work on accelerated schedules and under tight deadlines. Work may begin from sketches, design discussions, photographs, field notes, or architectural and structural drawings, then progress from concept development into detailed fabrication and installation packages.

Role Description

The Industrial Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Brantford, ON, focused on developing functional and visually compelling products and installations for commercial, retail, and public environments. In this position, the designer collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and installation teams to translate client requirements into detailed concepts, drawings, and specifications. Daily tasks include researching user and site needs, generating design concepts, creating 3D models and technical drawings, and preparing documentation for production and fabrication. The role involves prototyping and testing designs, refining them based on feedback, and ensuring feasibility, safety, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with brand and environmental standards. The Industrial Designer also participates in project meetings, supports design reviews, and contributes to continuous improvement of Trade Sync’s product and design offerings.
