Job summary

Bird Construction is seeking a Buildings Estimator to join our Industrial team in Canada. You will lead the estimating process for industrial, manufacturing, power, and nuclear projects from opportunity through bid submission.

You will review contracts and drawings, perform detailed quantity take-offs, and develop bid strategies while coordinating with operations and engineering to define execution plans and assumptions. This role targets 6+ years of estimating experience in related sectors.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of estimating experience within commercial, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, power, or nuclear construction.
• Experience estimating buildings within industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, power generation facilities, nuclear facilities, laboratories, or process plants.
• Strong knowledge of building construction and CSI Divisions 1-16.
• Proven experience managing estimates from start to finish, including quantity take-offs, subcontractor procurement, bid closing, and final submission.
• Strong experience reviewing and interpreting prime contracts, specifications, tender documents, and commercial terms and conditions.
• Experience estimating building scopes including: General Requirements, Concrete and Structural Systems, Masonry, Structural Steel, Building Envelope, Roofing, Doors, Frames & Hardware, Architectural Finishes, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, Fire Protection Systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating process from opportunity review through bid submission.
• Review and interpret prime contracts, drawings, specifications, scope documents, and commercial requirements.
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and estimates for industrial building projects.
• Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Develop bid strategies, estimate summaries, and proposal submissions.
• Identify project risks, opportunities, exclusions, and scope gaps.
• Coordinate with operations, engineering, and project teams to develop execution plans and estimate assumptions.
• Participate in bid reviews, client clarifications, and post-bid negotiations.
• Support project handover activities upon award.
