Job summary

Apera AI is seeking a Machine Learning Applied Scientist (Co-op) for an eight-month term in its Vancouver office. You will apply ML and computer vision to robotic part picking and localization in fast, high-speed manufacturing environments.

In this role you’ll prototype, evaluate, and improve models deployed on factory floors, with opportunities to translate research into production, work on synthetic data generation, and contribute to real deployments in collaboration with robotics and software

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python and machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
• Understanding of computer vision fundamentals (detection, segmentation, 3D geometry).
• Familiarity with model training, tuning, and evaluation workflows.
• Interest in robotics or applying ML in production-grade software.

Responsibilities

• Prototype and Evaluate Vision Models for object detection, depth estimation, or 6-DoF pose estimation.
• Translate research into production-relevant improvements and document findings.
• Enhance synthetic data generation for model training to support generalization across use cases.
• Review ML development environment and propose concrete usability or performance improvements.
• Collaborate with robotics and software engineers to ensure deployment requirements are met.
