Job summary

NAANDWECHIGE-GAMIG Wikwemikong Health Centre in Ontario is seeking a Natural Helper to address addictions and mental health through counselling, teachings and referrals in a culturally responsive approach.

You will provide and coordinate cultural knowledge transfer, deliver traditional teachings, promote Anishnaabemowin, and ensure services are culturally relevant and safe for the community of Wikwemikong. A CPIC is required and strong Indigenous knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal children, youth and families in healing and reconciliation capacity.
  • Post-Secondary education in Indigenous Studies and/or equivalent education.
  • Skills and experience in presenting workshops and facilitating groups.
  • Experience in program planning, development, implementation, data collection and evaluation.
  • Anishnaabemowin is an asset
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must provide a clear criminal reference check (CPIC).
  • Knowledgeable regarding disability and wellness programs, applications, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide, coordinate and support all aspects of cultural knowledge transfer and planning.
  • Provide traditional teachings and ceremonies in a safe and acceptable environment.
  • Work to promote Anishnaabemowin, cultural awareness, safety and competency.
  • To ensure that culturally appropriate and effective services are provided.
  • To facilitate culturally appropriate and efficient services to the community of Wikwemikong.
  • Follow a Code of Ethics.
  • Follow a Code of Conduct.
