Job summary

Anishinabek Employment & Training Services in Northwestern Ontario is seeking a Mental Health Counsellor to provide short and long-term psychotherapy within an interprofessional team.

You will develop care plans with clients, collaborate with health care providers, and connect clients with community resources while respecting Anishinaabe traditions.

Required are a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, willingness to travel, immunization proof, and HOOPP pension with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or undergraduate degree in social work, psychology, or related field; current college registration.
  • Experience providing group counselling; familiarity with Anishinaabe organizations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of traditional Anishinaabe culture and healing practices; ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients and provide short and long-term psychotherapy.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify capacities and develop care plans.
  • Coordinate group counselling and peer support linkages to maximize resources.
  • Collaborate with health care providers to implement individualized care plans.
  • Assist clients to increase personal effectiveness, health, and wellness; promote treatment adherence.
  • Complete documentation and reporting; chart progress and ensure accountability.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community services and resources.
  • May be redeployed to ensure provision of essential services in emergencies.

Education

Master’s or undergraduate degree in social work/psychology
