Job summary

Scott Land & Lease is seeking an Indigenous Relations Field Specialist to join our Edmonton-based team. The role coordinates Indigenous consultation activities, attends site visits with First Nation and Métis representatives, and helps ensure projects meet consultation requirements and client timelines.

We are hiring an Indigenous Relations Field Specialist in Edmonton / Northern Alberta!

Are you an enthusiastic, motivated Indigenous Relations professional who enjoys working in the field and wishes to advance their career? If so, Scott Land & Lease has an immediate opening for an Indigenous Relations Field Specialist to join our growing team. We are involved in a number of different industries, including oil and gas, renewable energy, pipelines, infrastructure, telecom, and more.

We are looking for an Indigenous Relations Field Specialist who is great to work with, eager to learn new things, brings a positive, can-do attitude to the business each day, and is comfortable representing Scott Land and our clients in the field.

This is a field-focused role that works closely with the Indigenous Relations Manager and the Edmonton-based Indigenous Relations administration team. The successful candidate will coordinate and conduct Indigenous consultation activities, attend site visits with First Nation and Métis representatives, document concerns and follow-up requirements, and help ensure projects meet consultation requirements and client timelines.

Skills required for success in this role:

• Experience in Indigenous relations, consultation, environmental, forestry, regulatory, land, stakeholder engagement or a related field is considered an asset.
• Experience with Alberta Indigenous consultation requirements is strongly preferred; comprehensive Scott Land training will be provided to the successful candidate.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with First Nation and Métis representatives and other stakeholders.
• Strong cultural awareness, sound judgment and the ability to navigate sensitive situations professionally.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and highly organized.
• Strong reporting and documentation skills.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to work with maps, survey plans, GPS and project information.
• Must have a clean driving record and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Must be comfortable travelling to remote project locations throughout Alberta.
• Ability to walk significant distances over uneven terrain and work outdoors in variable Alberta conditions.
• Ability to safely access remote locations by truck and, where appropriate and qualified, other approved means.
• Ability to review and understand project plans, maps, land-use information and other project documentation.
• Ability to recognize potential concerns relating to traditional land use, access, cultural sites, harvesting, environmental effects and other Indigenous interests.
• Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
• A professional, respectful and solutions-oriented approach to field engagement.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and schedule Indigenous consultation site visits with First Nation and Métis representatives.
• Conduct field visits and consultation activities on behalf of Scott Land and our clients.
• Explain proposed project locations, activities and project footprints clearly and respectfully.
• Conduct Level 2 follow-ups and post-site-visit communications as required.
• Identify and document potential concerns, questions, commitments and follow-up requirements.
• Recognize potential issues relating to traditional land usage, access, cultural sites, harvesting, environmental effects and other Indigenous interests.
• Escalate significant or sensitive concerns promptly to the appropriate Scott Land Indigenous Relations team members.
• Navigate remote project locations using GPS, maps, survey plans and project information.
• Review project assignments in advance and develop an understanding of the project footprint, access and surrounding land-use considerations before arriving at the site.
• Prepare clear, objective and detailed consultation and site-visit notes.
• Accurately record participants, dates, locations, observations, questions, concerns, commitments and required follow-up.
• Maintain professional records suitable for client and regulatory review.
• Ensure commitments and unresolved issues are clearly identified and communicated.
• Coordinate closely with Scott Land Indigenous Relations administration, project managers, land agents and clients.
• Manage multiple site visits, assignments and deadlines independently.
• Communicate schedule changes, emerging concerns and project risks promptly.
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive consultation information.
• Represent Scott Land and its clients professionally throughout field and community engagements.
