Job summary

Spirit of Our Youth Homes, a division of Taproot Community Support Services, seeks an Overnight Youth Worker for a 27-hour-per-week PT position in Edmonton. You will supervise children/youth overnight, perform household tasks, and complete logs while maintaining a safe, supportive environment.

Ideal candidates bring 2+ years in Child and Youth Work, crisis intervention, First Aid/CPR, and Indigenous cultural awareness. A Class 5 license and excellent communication are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in Child and Youth Work, in a group home or community setting.
• Experience supporting/teaching Indigenous children/youth, is an asset.
• Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Work, or related field.
• Ability to handle crisis situations and ensure safety.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• Indigenous awareness and cultural diversity training.
• Class 5 Driver's license with clean abstract for company driving.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Be a positive role model for the children & youth.
• Ensure individuals basic needs are met.
• Assist with operation/maintenance of the residence/program facility (May include cleaning, laundry, dishwashing, vacuuming or assisting the youth in care with the completion of these tasks, etc.)
• Cooperate with other team members to plan, support and/or deliver culturally appropriate programs, services, workshops, and outings.
• Complete paperwork - log book, contact notes, medication, Critical Incident reports etc.
• Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
