Job summary

Algonquin College in Ottawa is seeking an Indigenous Initiatives Special Projects incumbent to coordinate the IKWE program, supporting Indigenous women students and building leadership and career skills.

You will work with the Mamidosewin Centre and cross-college partners to ensure deliverables, coordinate events, communications, and donor-funded activities, and act as a navigator to connect students with college supports and opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) year diploma in Indigenous Studies, Business, Event Management, Project Management, or Social Sciences/Humanities with related focus on Indigenous Education or equivalent
• Minimum of three (3) years of direct experience with First Nation, Métis or Inuit students and communities
• Experience working with students who face barriers to completing their education
• Working with community organizations
• Working on events, either in a leading or organizing capacity
• Experience leading/coordinating a team

Responsibilities

• Donor-funded IKWE program plan and execute on-campus events and activities
• Deliver internal programs, external events, and land-based learning
• Plan programming to develop leadership, confidence and career readiness
• Build and maintain a network of Indigenous women leaders locally and beyond
• Coordinate on-campus and off-site co-curricular activities for donor-funded programs
• Participate in Student Awards selections for IKWE funds as needed
• Collaborate with AC Recruitment to promote IKWE to schools and boards
• Partner with IKWE and Nìgàn to broaden exposure to employers and opportunities
• Provide individualized support to donor-funded learners
• Act as navigator to college services while maintaining confidentiality
• Support learners’ employability with Student Career Development
• Analyze donor program outcomes and report to donors
• Coordinate marketing communications for initiatives
