Cambrian College's School of Community Services invites applications for part-time professors to teach in the Social Service Worker - Indigenous Specialization (SSIS) program starting September 2026.

Applicants must hold a BSW, be registered or eligible to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, identify as Indigenous, and demonstrate Indigenous context experience. Preference for Indigenous language skills and advanced degrees.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and provide documents for education completed outside Canada (WES/ICAS).
• Registration or qualified to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
• Must identify as Indigenous and have lived experience in Anishinaabe/Indigenous context.
• Experience teaching in First Nations/Indigenous contexts is preferred.

Job description

Cambrian College’s School of Community Services requires part-time professors to teach within the Social Service Worker - Indigenous Specialization (SSIS) program beginning September 2026.

Required:

• A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW).(A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)
• Registration or qualified to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
• Must identify as being of Indigenous heritage (including First Nations, Métis, or Inuit)
• Demonstrated lived experience within an Anishinaabe/Indigenous context
• Experience working in a First Nations and/or urban Anishinaabe/Indigenous environment with an understanding of Anishinaabe/Indigenous culture, traditions, teaching, and ceremonies
• Proven ability to provide leadership, to think critically, and to communicate effectively in a professional manner
• Ability to be an effective role model in the classroom
• Ability to utilize creative teaching approaches and current and emerging teaching and learning strategies to enhance student progress
• Possess good organizational skills and sound computer software skills
• Ability to function within a team environment

Additional Assets/Preferred:

• A BSW Indigenous Stream
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Social Work or related field
• Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level
• Indigenous language speaker

Cambrian College is formulating a process on confirmation of Indigenous identity. As an interim step, applicants who are selected to interview and/or who are offered employment and who self-identify as Indigenous will be asked to confirm their Indigenous identity. This will be done by asking the applicant to furnish the following:

• The name and location of the First Nation community to which the applicant belongs.
• In the absence of naming a First Nation community, a detailed statement of self-declaration outlining Indigenous heritage, lineage, lived experiences, ongoing connections to Indigenous community, and a statement of how the applicant or the applicant’s family came to lose their connection to the community.
• Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to provide any documentation that they have verifying their Indigenous identity. Examples include membership / citizenship cards or letters of confirmation or support from community. Applicants may be asked to provide community references to assist in confirmation of Indigenous Identity.
