School District 5 Southeast Kootenay is seeking an Education Assistant to support students with diverse needs under the supervision of a principal and classroom teacher. The role includes implementing IEPs, providing personal and academic assistance, and assisting with life skills in classroom and community settings.

Successful candidates will have an Education Assistant certificate (or autism course with practicum) and the ability to document student progress, adapt materials, and collaborate

Qualifikationen

• Successful completion of a one-year Education Assistant Program certificate from a recognized, accredited institute.
• If not included within the one-year certificate, successful completion of a current autism course of no less than 25 hours.
• Minimum of 180 hours of supervised practicum by an accredited institute in a school setting.

Aufgaben

• Participate in the implementation of the supports outlined in the Inclusive Education Plan (IEP).
• Assist students with effective strategies for personal, social and intellectual competencies.
• Reinforce the educational program by adapting classroom materials to meet student needs.
• Assist in planning and acquiring life and social skills for positive behaviours, including work and recreation.
• Monitor and reinforce behaviour for students displaying moderate issues.
• Provide input to the IEP and progress reports, and maintain student data files.
• Provide personal care assistance (toileting, feeding, dressing) as required.
• Implement healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions as directed.
• Assist with medical emergencies and safe actions as needed.
• Support educational programs and use equipment for students with specialized needs.
• Supervise students in and out of classrooms and on field trips.
• Attend meetings and participate in field activities as requested.
• Engage in professional development related to the role.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow district policies.
