Job summary

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a limited term Facility and Measurement Engineer to review measurement, reporting plans, and regulatory compliance for in situ oil sands facilities.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate metering devices, MARPs, and facility schematics, helping shape regulatory decisions that ensure safe and responsible development of Alberta's energy resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Petroleum, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering
• 5–7 years of related experience in process, facility, industrial engineering, or regulatory work in energy
• Registered professional with APEGA or ASET (preferred) or eligible
• Certifications or training in measurement systems/instrumentation or production accounting is an asset
• Strong understanding of Alberta regulations (EPEA/OSCA) and related directives

Responsibilities

• Review, coordinate, and apply risk-informed technical review principles for in situ applications and submissions.
• Provide expertise in measurement systems, instrumentation, and MARPs.
• Review operational data, annual reports, and presentations to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to communicate findings and advise on regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of regulatory processes and tools.
