Lightwell Learning in Vancouver is hiring an in-school instructor to provide one-to-one math and literacy support for Kindergarten to 7th grade. Instruction occurs primarily at a Vancouver school location, with hybrid in-person and live online delivery.

Purpose of Position

This in-school instructor works one-to-one with school-aged (Kindergarten to 7) learners, delivering individualized and comprehensive learning support that is neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and evidence-based.

Principal Roles and Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one instruction in math and literacy at K-7 levels, primarily out of an in-school placement in Vancouver (in Shaughnessy, near Oak St and King Edward Ave), both in-person and live online
• Represent the organization as the only team member in the school
• Create and maintain a learning environment that is neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and enjoyable for all learners
• Identify learner strengths and challenges through informal and formal assessment
• Draw from multiple resources and curricula, develop and implement year-long learning plans and daily lesson plans for your assigned learners that are individualized, neuroaffirming, strength-based, evidence-based, technology-enhanced and linked to measurable learning goals
• Provide formal and informal written progress reports, with or without the use of assistive technology

Requirements & Competencies

• For our in-school placement: Experience and comfort working and integrating into a faith-based Elementary School environment; experience in an independent school is an asset
• Experience working with school-aged children with diagnosed or suspected learning differences
• Experience in strengths-based, neuroaffirming learning environments and/or a demonstrated eagerness and ability to quickly adapt to this type of environment
• Experience as an Elementary-level generalist in math and literacy instruction for K-7
• Experience using structured, systematic, and explicit instructional approaches
• Experience teaching the following: literacy concepts using a structured literacy/Science of Reading approach, math focused on building conceptual understanding, and support for executive functioning, sensory processing, or social-emotional learning.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with or without the use of assistive technology
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
• Demonstrated commitment to our charitable mission
• Self-motivated and self-directed
• Ability to provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
• Eligibility to work in Canada

Job type and hours of work:

• Monday to Thursday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm
• Employee, paid hourly for instruction and preparation time
• School follows the Jewish calendar, with some variation for professional development with Lightwell over March break
• Position is temporary from October 2026 to June 2027

Start date: As soon as possible in October for the 2026-27 school year. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received.

Location:

Monday to Thursday: In a school in the Shaughnessy area of Vancouver - easily accessible by car or by the Canada Line and buses.

Reports to:

Instructors report to the Senior Manager, Instruction and Innovation, and work closely with their assigned Case Manager(s) during the academic term.

Remuneration and Benefits

• $30 per hour
• Vacation accrual paid out at 4.0% every pay period
• In lieu of Benefits, paid out at 3.0% every pay period
• $1,000 contribution to RRSP or equivalent in 2026. For reference, our organization is currently researching whether and how we may participate in retirement savings / pension plan options. Updates on this may be offered during the interview process
