Role: Responsible for the installation and maintenance of communications hardware and networks in retail environments. These networks include data, POS, and PC systems in commercial spaces.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Interpret and manage work orders, drawings, and specifications
  • Perform site inspections
  • Assemble and set up all tools, materials, and equipment
  • Test computer peripherals, hardware, and software to ensure proper functioning
  • Install network and peripheral hardware (servers, switches, RF, POS, wireless, printers)
  • Test, review, and troubleshoot installed systems
  • Travel to customer sites across assigned geographic areas to perform work
  • Perform work on both day and night shifts
  • Install cable supports if required
  • Install, fish, dress, cross-connect, and terminate UTP, coaxial, and fiber optic cables if required
  • Provide work logs and reports
  • Liaise with customers, store managers, and employees to explain, coordinate, and schedule hardware installations

Occupational Requirements:

Technical Requirements:

  • Experience with Network/POS/PC systems preferred
  • Experience with retail communications networks, POS, and PC systems is an asset
  • Experience installing various network infrastructure equipment (switches, routers, servers, DSL modems, wireless access points, cameras, security systems, network addressing)
  • Experience troubleshooting cabling, hardware, and network issues in the field
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools
  • Proficient computer skills and solid knowledge of networking
  • Valid and unexpired Class G driver’s license; ability to produce a clean driver’s abstract
  • Valid Fall Protection/Working at Heights (Ontario) and Elevated Work Platform certification
  • Own vehicle and ability to drive to jobs independently
  • Basic computer skills and good writing skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook is helpful

Personal Requirements:

  • Willingness to perform rotating day/night shifts, weekends/on-call, call-backs, and overtime
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned region, possibly across Canada
