Job summary

The Fredericton, NB-based Mining Environmental Group at KCB invites an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer to apply a critical thinking approach to mine water balance, hydrotechnical design, and climate resilience across global projects.

You will work with GoldSim, PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS/HMS on site and in office, travel to project sites in Canada and internationally, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams under mentorship.

Qualifications

  • Degree in civil engineering with ongoing professional development.
  • At least five years of civil design experience for mining surface water controls.
  • Eligible to register as a professional engineer in Canada.
  • Experience in channel design, flood mapping, water conveyance and drainage.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Work on mine site water balance and water quality models.
  • Design hydrotechnical components of tailings storage facilities.
  • Incorporate climate resilience into hydrotechnical design.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and Dam Safety Reviews.
  • Engage with clients and suppliers on field programs and design solutions.
  • Travel to project sites within Canada and internationally.

What You Would Engage In

Our focus is on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. If continuing your career journey with us, you would be part of our Mining Environmental Group, based out of our Fredericton office. The role of Intermediate Water Resources Engineer comes with the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule and will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Work on mine site wide water balance and water quality models (with the opportunity to use GoldSim)
  • Design hydrotechnical components of tailings storage facilities for global mining projects
  • Incorporate climate change resiliency in hydrotechnical design
  • Contribute to risk assessments, Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs) and risk-informed decision making
  • Engage with clients, colleagues and suppliers on environmentally focused field programs and design solutions
  • Work with the latest versions of software, including GoldSim, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, HEC- HMS, Flow-2D/3D
  • Be a part of diverse teams of multi-discipline engineers and designers from conceptual design through to construction.
  • Receive ongoing guidance and mentorship from leaders in the industry in a supportive, dynamic company culture that supports career development.
  • Travel to various project sites within Canada and internationally.
What We Require

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do however require the following qualifications:

  • A degree in civil engineering, with a track record of continued development
  • At least five years’ civil design experience related to surface water controls for mining projects
  • You must be eligible to register as professional engineer in Canada
  • Experience in channel design, flood mapping, water conveyance and drainage
  • An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams
  • Experience in a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements

  • An ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners
