Job summary

Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. (KCB) seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mining Environmental Group in Sudbury or Toronto.

You will lead geotechnical work on tailings storage facilities, mine waste, and water management, with opportunities to shape design and project outcomes. You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with clients and partners, perform slope stability and seepage analyses, oversee field programs, and use industry-standard software to deliver robust solutions on

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering required.
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensure in Canada expected.
  • 10–15 years of civil design experience with five in mine waste management.
  • Experience in dams, embankments, slopes and geotechnical design.
  • Experience with dam design, slope stability, seepage analysis and site investigation.
  • Strong soil/rock mechanics knowledge; lab and field testing.
  • Experience in safety-focused environments and incident reporting.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

The Opportunity:

Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. (KCB) seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mining Environmental Group in either our Sudbury or Toronto office. This role will support and lead geotechnical aspects of mining projects, with a focus on tailings storage facilities (TSFs), mine waste, and water management. Career development can be managed to support personal preferences such as niche, technical design specialists, or project participation in both technical dam engineering scopes and project management, or all-round dam engineering specialists, such as the responsible persons or Engineers of Record.

The position offers a hybrid work arrangement and the opportunity to contribute to complex, large-scale global projects.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Lead and support the design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities
  • Perform and contribute to risk assessments, dam safety evaluations, and risk-based decision-making
  • Collaborate with clients, internal teams, and external partners on field programs and engineering solutions
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses, including slope stability and seepage assessments
  • Oversee site investigations, laboratory testing, and earthworks activities
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and staff
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships throughout project lifecycles
  • Utilize industry-standard software and tools for analysis and design
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences and training
What we require:

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer role would require the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensure in Canada
  • 10 - 15 years of civil design experience, with five years related to mine waste management projects.
  • Candidates must have a background in geotechnical design, with a focus on dams, embankments, and slopes.
  • Demonstrated experience with dam design, slope stability, seepage analysis, and site investigation
  • Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, including laboratory and field testing
  • Experience working in safety-focused environments with incident reporting requirements
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams

  • Experience in seismic analysis of dams and related software packages.

The expected salary range for this position is $110,000 - $160,000 annually. Compensation above this range may be considered for candidates with significant experience or specialized expertise. The actual salary offered is based on an individual assessment of applicable experience, education, and skill level.
