Job summary

SLR Consulting (Canada) is seeking a seasoned hydrogeology/hydrology specialist to join our Mining projects team in Victoria, BC. You will compile, evaluate, and calibrate climate and hydrological data and build water balance and contaminant-load models to support water management and post-closure planning.

The role emphasizes GIS proficiency, programming (R/Python), and experience with GoldSim, HEC-RAS, and related tools, with a strong focus on delivering clear technical documentation to

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in water resources engineering, hydrology or relevant discipline.
  • A graduate degree (M.Sc.) in hydrology, preferably with a specialization in modeling through coursework or thesis project.
  • Hands-on experience with GIS software for hydrological and water resources applications, including watershed delineation, spatial data processing, terrain analysis, and preparation of model inputs.
  • Proficiency in R (or Python) for data processing, statistical analysis, visualization, and automation of hydrological workflows.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and calibrating conceptual rainfall‑runoff models.
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling software such as HEC‑RAS, Iber, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on experience using statistical and data‑analysis libraries to process, analyze, visualize, and perform QA/QC of climate and hydrological datasets.
  • Experience with GoldSim for water balance, hydrological, or water quality modelling is an asset.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Geoscientist in Training(G.I.T.), Engineer in Training (E.I.T.)

Responsibilities

  • Compile, process, and evaluate climate and hydrological datasts, includingdata QA/QC, gap analysis, data patching, interpolation, and extrapolationusing appropriate statistical methods.
  • Perform hydrological frequency analyses to characterize droughts, extreme wetconditions, and other hydrologic events relevant to water management anddesign.
  • Support the development of conceptual hydrological models, including thedefinition of catchments, hydrological processes, model inputs, assumptions, boundary conditions, and calibration targets prior to numerical modelimplementation.
  • Develop, calibrate, and validate hydrological models to characterize regionalhydrology and site-specific responses in both gauged and ungauged watersheds.
  • Build and update water balance models using the latest GoldSim simulationsoftware, incorporating rainfall, evaporation, catchment runoff, groundwaterrecharge, upstream inflows, and operational processes at mine sites.
  • Modify water balance models to simulate site changes, updated infrastructurelayouts, and water management practices during operations and post-closurefor a range of event‑based and sequence‑based rainfall scenarios and climatechange scenarios.
  • Develop and calibrate site-wide contaminant load balance models or waterquality models in GoldSim to simulate contaminant loads to be managed andtreated and the loads and concentrations in the receiving environment.
  • Conduct sensitivity and uncertainty analyses to evaluate key modelassumptions, parameters, and drivers and assess their influence on modelpredictions and water management outcomes.
  • Interpret modelling results and prepare clear technical documentation, figures, and repots than communicated model assumptions, methodologies, limitations, and key findings to project teams and clients.
