Job description
Your future role on our team

BBA is looking for a hydrology or hydraulics engineer with strong experience in water resource management. This role involves working in areas such as watershed studies, lake and river analyses and the quantitative and qualitative management of water resources.

You'll join a multidisciplinary team that works on a variety of projects, including mining, municipal drainage, water treatment, road and rail transport infrastructure and energy-related projects. Water management is a key issue in these projects and requires tailored approaches, methods and solutions for each mandate and context.

You’ll work closely with other BBA experts and with clients to identify, design and implement the best solutions for managing these challenges.

Upon joining BBA, you’ll receive onboarding training, followed by training sessions in engineering and project management procedures as part of the onboarding process.

  • Carry out hydrological studies, including watershed studies, hydrological modelling, hydroclimatic statistical analyses, climate change impact assessments as well as flood risk and impact assessment and adaptation.
  • Design hydraulic infrastructures such as dikes and dams, spillways, weirs, water intakes, ditches or channels, culverts, retention/detention basins and pumping stations.
  • Perform or oversee one-, two- and three-dimensional hydraulic simulations.
  • Develop hydrological and mass balances.
  • Assess hydrological conditions for water quality, treatment and environmental monitoring.
  • Design, instrument and install monitoring stations.
  • Design water treatment systems and size the required equipment.
  • Perform risk analyses.
  • Help with design reviews and preparing plans and specifications, proposals and permit and authorization applications to government authorities.

Summary of certifications and job requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (or equivalent) and a master's degree with a specialization in hydraulics or hydrology
  • From 5 to 10 years of experience as an engineer or specialist in hydrology or hydraulics and water resource management
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or working toward membership
  • Strong proficiency in both spoken and written English and French
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Solid knowledge of analysis methods and modelling tools in hydrology, hydraulics and water resource management
  • Asset: knowledge of municipal and industrial water treatment
  • Asset: experience in the mining sector
  • Asset: basic knowledge of instrumentation and hydrometry
  • Asset: knowledge of laws and regulations governing water management in Québec and Canada
  • Asset: knowledge of dam safety laws overseen by the Canadian Dam Association
