Job description

My client is a 100% employee-owned Canadian environmental consulting firm with an impressive legacy of three decades in operation. Known for their practical approach to ecological consulting—delivering actionable solutions, not just reports—they bring together a team of experienced biologists, scientists, and planners to serve a diverse suite of sectors including renewable energy, mining, oil & gas, transportation, regional planning, and reclamation. The firm operates across Western and Northern Canada, with multiple strategically located offices serving regional and national clients. They emphasize science-driven, client-focused environmental solutions, built on collaboration and long-term relationships.

My client is looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist. This position is less focused on drilling program execution and more centered around ongoing groundwater monitoring programs, hydrogeological interpretation, conceptual model development, and technical reporting associated with baseline and mining-related projects throughout BC.

The successful candidate will play a key role supporting ongoing project work, helping clients understand groundwater systems, identify trends and anomalies, and support regulatory and project decision-making through clear, defensible technical analysis.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid:Choice of 100% remote or hybrid within any western regional offices. (Must already live in Canada. International applications are not accepted)

Travel:5% in western Canada & Yukon (oversight & training, conferences)

Salary:$100k - $146k DOE, plus

  • health benefits
  • RRSP matching
  • annual performance bonuses AND annual profit-sharing bonuses

(The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range, as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute groundwater monitoring and sampling programs for mining and baseline projects throughout BC.
  • Conduct groundwater sampling across a wide range of well depths (approximately 3 m to 300 m).
  • Independently plan, coordinate, and manage field programs, including logistics, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and health and safety oversight.
  • Interpret groundwater monitoring data, including:
    • Water quality data and applied hydrogeological interpretation.
    • Logger and time-series datasets.
    • Trend analysis and statistical evaluation.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and potential hydrogeological concerns through data synthesis and interpretation.
  • Develop conceptual hydrogeological and hydrostratigraphic models to support baseline characterization and project understanding.
  • Support the design and refinement of groundwater baseline monitoring programs.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and defensible technical reports for clients and regulators.
  • Support regulatory applications and environmental permitting processes within British Columbia.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary environmental and engineering teams on mining, infrastructure, and natural resource projects.
  • Apply understanding of drilling data and subsurface investigations to hydrogeological interpretation and conceptual model development.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Hydrogeology, Geological Engineering, Geoscience, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Geo. or P.Eng. in British Columbia.
  • Intermediate to senior-level hydrogeology consulting experience, ideally within mining, environmental consulting, or natural resource sectors.
  • Strong experience with groundwater monitoring and sampling programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage field programs and ongoing technical work.
  • Strong groundwater data interpretation and analytical skills.
  • Experience interpreting:
    • Groundwater quality datasets.
    • Time-series and logger data.
    • Hydrogeological trends and statistical evaluations.
  • Strong understanding of geology and hydrostratigraphy.
  • Experience developing conceptual hydrogeological models.
  • Excellent technical writing and reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with BC’s environmental regulatory framework, including:
    • Environmental Management Act (EMA) permitting.
    • Air and Water Baseline Guidance.
  • Experience supporting mining and baseline projects in British Columbia is considered a strong asset.
  • Exposure to drilling and subsurface investigation programs is preferred, though direct drilling program leadership is not required for this role.
