SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice, providing globally integrated consulting services to the international mining and metals sector.

We are seeking an Intermediate Hydrogeologist.

Description of Responsibilities

SRK Consulting is an international firm of specialist consultants who focus mainly on the mining industry. We employ over 1400 professionals in 45 offices on 6 continents. The Canadian Groundwater Group currently has 13 staff with experience in physical and chemical hydrogeology and modeling. There are more than 25 hydrogeologists in SRK North America and more than 60 in SRK around the world. More information on our company is available at our website ( www.srk.com ).

We are seeking an Intermediate Hydrogeologist to be based in our Vancouver office, but other remote locations can be considered for the appropriate candidate (Nelson, Saskatoon, Quebec City).

The candidate will work within our hydrogeology group, generally as part of larger interdisciplinary teams consisting of mining, geochemistry, water management, and engineering staff. The candidate will perform a range of tasks including field work planning and implementation, drill supervision, hydrogeological instrumentation installation and operation in deep environments (>250m), working with databases, aquifer testing, data analysis and interpretation, conceptual modeling, and reporting. Projects could include greenfield or brownfield, from exploration to operations to mine closure, with focus on environmental and/or engineering components. Experience with bedrock characterization, assessment and conceptual model development for open pit and underground mine projects, packer-isolated hydraulic testing, deep vibrating wire piezometer installation and other bedrock techniques is desirable.

  • Interpretation of field data and development of conceptual models, often coordinating with geochemists, structural geologists and geotechnical engineers.
  • Development of inputs to water and load balance models; estimates of pit or underground inflows; remedial options analysis.
  • Contributing to engineering designs; interpreting data on constructed remediation systems.

The successful candidate will interact closely with hydrogeology and other discipline team members from junior to principal levels and will have a role in managing tasks and junior staff to achieve project goals and timelines, preparing reports and presentations for internal or external audiences. There will be many opportunities to work with experts in a variety of fields to learn and grow their consulting career.

Essential Requirements
  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree (master’s or post‑baccalaureate work preferred) in geology, geological/civil engineering, or physical geography, with emphasis on geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental engineering, or geotechnical disciplines.
  • At least five years of experience, preferably in one or more of the disciplines listed above. Mining industry experience is a benefit (operational, exploration, or assessment).
  • Self‑motivated and desire to work both as part of multi‑disciplinary teams and independently.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Able to work on site independently with long hours in the field and variable weather conditions.
  • Experience with installation and operation of deep (>250m) groundwater instrumentation.
  • Willing to travel locally, nationally and possibly internationally.
  • Valid driver’s licence with a good driving record.
  • Professional registration or eligibility to obtain it.
Salary

The estimated base pay range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000. The salary offered will be commensurate with relevant skills, knowledge, and experience.

Benefits
  • An attractive compensation package.
  • Diversity of projects and clients within a non‑hierarchical consultancy environment.
  • Opportunity to purchase shares in the company; the SRK Group is an independent group, owned by its employees.

Applicants should respond by submitting their CV online. The candidates under consideration will be contacted directly; no phone calls please.
