Job summary

IGM Financial Inc. in Canada invites students to join our internship program for winter term 2027, working under a Wealth Advisor to gain hands-on experience in financial planning, client service, and practice management.

The role runs January to April 2027, 37.5 hours per week, with a base salary of $49,000–$51,000 (prorated) and paid time off. The position offers exposure to investment planning, client relationships, and business development within a hybrid, office-based environment in Toronto

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a post-secondary program in financial planning, finance, accounting, business administration, commerce, economics.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Shadow a Wealth Advisor and learn about the day-to-day activities of a financial planning practice.
• Support client meeting preparation, follow-up, and documentation.
• Assist with organizing and updating client information and financial planning files.
• Learn about the financial planning process, including discovery, analysis, recommendations, implementation, and ongoing service.
• Support business development initiatives such as market research, community outreach, prospecting preparation, and client engagement activities.
• Contribute to practice management activities that help support an efficient and professional client experience.
• Build your understanding of investment, retirement, estate, tax, insurance, and wealth planning concepts.
• Participate in training, mentorship, and learning opportunities related to the financial planning profession.
• Support special projects based on the needs of the practice and your interests, skills, and academic background.
