Job summary

Northland Power is seeking an Analyst, Market Operations & Optimization to help optimize generation and storage across electricity markets. You’ll build quantitative models, analytics, and data pipelines using Python and SQL to unlock revenue opportunities and support commercial decisions.

Based in Toronto, the role combines market analytics with collaboration across Operations, Asset Management and commercial teams, with a four-day in-office schedule and one flexible remote day.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics or a related quantitative discipline.
• 1-3 years of experience in electricity markets, energy trading, energy storage, renewable energy, quantitative analysis, optimization or a related field.
• Strong Python programming skills for data analysis, modeling and automation.
• Strong SQL skills and experience querying and managing large datasets.
• Understanding of wholesale electricity markets and concepts such as energy, capacity, ancillary services, congestion and DA/RT markets.

Responsibilities

• Analyze electricity-market prices, congestion, ancillary services, dispatch outcomes and other market fundamentals to identify opportunities and risks.
• Perform asset and portfolio-level analyses, including DA/RT performance and revenue attribution.
• Develop and maintain optimization models to evaluate dispatch strategies and market participation for generation and storage assets.
• Design and maintain data pipelines and dashboards using Python and SQL to support market operations.
• Present analytical findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders in a clear, actionable manner.
